Intra-operative neuromonitoring

Intra-operative neuromonitoring

What does intraoperative neuromonitoring mean?

This is the technique of recording evoked and quiescent electrical signals from the Central Nervous System (CNS), which is used during various brain or spinal surgeries as an additional method of nerve protection.

The purpose of this service is to avoid injury to sensitive areas of the CNS, significantly reducing the risk of post-operative neurological damage, and to safely guide the surgeon’s manipulations during surgery.

Who interprets the specific information during surgery?

Trained neurotechnologists, members of the surgical team, monitor the computer screen and record the electrical signals. If they change, they evaluate them and inform the surgeon. Depending on the severity, they advise the surgeon to take appropriate action alongside the progress of the operation. The surgeon must be able to interpret the results appropriately.
